A gel is applied to the teeth and a special light is used to help activate the ingredients in the gel. Your gums will be protected by a gel or rubber shield. You will then be given a kit to take home with you, with a bleaching treatment and care instructions to make the most of your dazzling new smile.
An at-home bleaching treatment is one that you can do yourself simply by purchasing a peroxide based bleaching solution from your dentist. This treatment comes in the form of a special tray that fits to your teeth whereby you place the gel in the tray and use as per the instructions. Some solution requires overnight use, but you will find that they vary in duration and frequency of treatment time. Your dentist is the best person to ask for advice and what best suits your needs.
Whitening toothpastes are different from bleaching because they do not permanently alter the colour of your teeth. What they do; is contain a simple polishing agent that removes deeper stains from your enamel than regular toothpastes.
So as you can see you have several options open to you. Tooth whitening – bleaching has become a safe and popular form of cosmetic surgery. But your dentist will warn you that it is not for everybody.
There are tooth coloured fillings for example that do not stand out and may have to be replaced, as they do not respond to the bleaching agent used.
So before you select a treatment, talk to your dentist about your needs and together, you can decide if teeth whitening or bleaching is the best option for you.
